Dariya Yev Creates on SRAS Program

SRAS graduate Dariya Yev created several pieces while abroad with SRAS on the Art and Museums in Russia program in St. Petersburg.

This is one piece she chose to share with us:

"Here" St. Petersburg, Oil, July 11, by Dariya Yev

Here is what the artist has to say about her creation:

This particular painting in July of 2011 occurred as I was planted upon a bridge a short distance away from Nevsky Prospekt (Невский проспект), staring into the strong, mystical architecture of Saint Petersburg. Standing upon the scene at that moment I could not help but recall specific passages from Dostoevsky’s The Idiot, in which he paints a verbal tale within the city. Studying at The Hermitage Youth Center in St. Petersburg through SRAS was an invigorating and intellectually prosperous process. Thus, my days were largely spent with private instruction, invoking knowledge of subjects ranging from the Scythians, processions of the Silk Road, Greek Art, Holland and Flanders, Old France, and discovering dazzling rooms filled with artifacts dating back to the 5th or 6th centuries or even earlier in history.
